Napoleon is right not worth your time. Go for another that most likely is better, there is a reason why there is something not clicking. With that said I do not tolerate friendzoning either (it is a menality of the person, not the circumstance) when i went on my first date with my girlfriend before I even went on the date I literally point blank asked her "Is this a Date". I made sure that there was no friendzone bull or any odd expectations. She said that made her attracted to me because of my boldness. Regardless of his answer, the basic description you've given of him (intentional or not) lends me to believe he's a good guy. Gender is not really particular to this case: people of all genders appreciate being 'asked out'. It's flattering, unless the person is some condescending bitch

Recommendation: study up on the subject, if just a bit. Practice is far more educational, but it is so due to flops, typically.

Which is still why the response was like it was: at that point, you may as well just give it up, and enjoy a potentially long term friendship... the common results of 'last resort fucking someone' are to either have a flat 'no' thrown your way (and to be thought the lesser, for it)... or for it to be seen as a once-off occasion to never happen again (and often afterwords they will drift apart).

Sure, it *can* work out... but the cases where it works out it could easily have worked without said forcing.
