I strongly support the notion that a person has the right to believe whatever nonsense they want.
That doesn't mean that your (or my) beliefs are immune to criticism.
I'll respect your right to hold whatever opinion you want, but that doesn't mean that I have to respect what you believe - and that goes both ways.

I show religious beliefs the exact amount of respect that they have shown me, and they tell me I deserve to burn in hell.
Who's the one that needs to learn about respect?

The problem with this call to respect the beliefs of others is that it's self refuting. Here, lemme show you:
"Hey, you can't say that! You should respect the beliefs of others!"
"Hey! Why aren't you respecting my belief that I shouldn't respect bullshit beliefs?"
"But-"
"Respecting the beliefs of others is what you think should happen, not me. So you should either respect my belief that I need not respect yours, or drop the whole issue."

I'll respect the beliefs of theists when they respect my non-belief without categorizing me as worthy of whatever terrible punishment their deity wants to do to me.
