this research might serve a purpose.

I disagree because animal sentience is key to the concept of animal rights. One of the ways humans justify treating other animals like shit is the thought that they are different than we are. Many believe they are not capable of emotions such as love and fear. Some don't even believe they are capable of experiencing pain. This is exactly the type of research that may be able to provide verifiable empirical evidence to show these people that other animals besides humans are capable of both feelings and reason.

In one recent study Dr Jenia Meng ranked sentience in animals as: human infant>other apes>other mammals>birds>cold blood animals. This study suggests dogs are on par with a human 2 year old. If that is true, and I suspect it is, then an adult chimp probably quite a bit further up the cognitive ladder than that.

I love our dog but once he dies we're not getting another. We've had him for 13 years and I'm just tired of taking care of pets as well as children. Nothing against dogs, but it's just one more thing I don't want to have to take care of right now.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

What's the end game of this mental Shell game? That cattle and chickens should not be raised for food? Puppies saved while babies are euthanized? Up is down and down is up.

Euthanasia of the sick and dying is a privilege we allow our pets yet deny to people that would prefer it to a few extra weeks of pain and misery thanks in no small part to archaic religious dogma such as your own.

But I wouldn't limit it to dogs, every thing with a nervous system falls into the category.

I was crying by the end of this, I was laughing so hard. The Cocker Spaniel at the end was my favorite. No one even had to say one word to that guy! I love dogs so much!

Also, yes, I think dogs are on par with people. When we take one on as a part of the family, it deserves our love as much as a human does. The only reason I don't volunteer at the Humane Society is that I would go broke trying to adopt every animal there.
