"Cut and paste" Christianity
RE: "Cut and paste" Christianity
EvF: As said, Pascals wager is not for atheist, but more for theists. More from someone who wants a reason to follow Christ rather than themself because to be a christians have to follow not believe. Or if you dont know if god is an alien or God pascals wager shows theres more to be gained from thinking it God than an alien practically. So its more for someone who already has evidence for God's existance but needs a bit more of a push I suppose.

Ok....

Now that a person has the 'evidence' for a God, using Pascals Wager helps you not.

To satisfy the wager you would be compelled to take as truth every religious 'path to the divine' out there. Contradictory natures of all the differing religions (they all claim exclusivity) this would be impossible. Pascals wager just adds more confusion to the already confused.

I don't know if you've been asked this before solar, but I must ask;

How does one go from "evidence of a God" to christianity possessing absolute truth of the matter?
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

What evidence?

You say Pascals wager is for theists, but can you give any arguments for it's validity?

Solarwave,

This link was posted before you got her, so I don't know if you've seen it. This isn't a shot at you, just a video about what open-mindedness really means.

The question of God is a big one and obviously there is no way to "solve" it, such that all humanity will embrace him or reject him. It seems humans just need a line to be between them so they can ridicule the other side. I feel you are deluded but I also understand your earnest search for truth. It comes across in your posts that you are not as resolute as most of the other theists, and it seems that you are open to new data, as I am.

Sonny, you don't get it....and probably never will. I was raised with the full panoply of xtian indoctrination and, upon reaching the age of reason, rejected it for the total man-made bullshit that it is.

Are you so fucking arrogant that you think you are bringing something NEW to the table? I've heard it all before and trust me, you are no more convincing that the last asshole (or the next asshole) who comes along sprinkling jesus dust as if he were god's fucking gift to the world.

You need to get over yourself. You are not that important.

I was actually looking for an applause emoticon,but this will do;

Me? I'm recovering Catholic,and was reading Aquinas at 16. Our attitude towards the fundies and evangelicals was that they are the crackpot fringe of Christianity and should be ignored. That is one of my Catholic views which hasn't changed,except in degree (today I think a lot of the literalists are actually quite nuts) Catholics on the other hand simply live a permanent state of denial,with a sublime capacity for doublethink.
