Quote:A Virginia mother let her 7-year-old son wear a Ku Klux Klan costume this Halloween because, she insisted, it's a family tradition.

And what is so "newsworthy" about this?

That kind of child abuse has been going on for a long time:

Because in 2013 we'd like to think that we've grown beyond having our children dress up as members of a hate group.

Well, I personally do not care. Its not really offensive to me.
Besides, there is also this to consider: hate group for one, has perhaps a higher meaning for another. Perhaps the family is proud to be members of the KKK. They might not really agree with your thoughts about them, as if they did, they probably would not be dressing their children like that.
Besides, I'm quite interested about how you came to decide what is beyond our time and what is not, my friend.
Obviously hate still exists, and people who hate do exist, and people who form groups based on that hate(whereas I don't really think that the KKK is specifically a hate group) so it means its still relevant. Like, isn't the antifa a hate group? But they are relevant to today's world by leftist standards.

I bet you wouldn't say the same regarding the PKK.

It still isn't offensive. I personally know people who are sympathetic to the PKK. I personally oppose the PKK on the grounds of conflicting interests.
In truth, it is them who are constantly offended by our presence. Nationalists are not easy to offend, but internationalists, leftists, and liberals are easily offended.
Besides, you have good point there. If I were to be offended by the PKK, its because I'm a Turk, and we both are enemies. What in particular offends you, as far as I'm concerned, someone who is not black, about the KKK?
I guess you're gonna say, "I'm not offended, but someone might be." Is it your duty to remove or condemn everything that is possibly offensive to someone else?
As it is written in the Bible, "Let Baal defend himself.".

I bet you'd change your mind if you lived in the Deep South. They don't take kindly to furriners who don't worship Jesus.

Because in most polite society, racism is frowned upon and being a member of a hate group like the KKK means you will be (rightly) marginalized. This isn't 1963, it's 2013, and hating other people based upon the color of their skin is not something that "good" people do in this country any more. Even gays are getting their due rights, slowly but surely. We have, for the most part, learned from the past when it comes to civil rights. So people who join hate groups, while they do have the right to speak their mind, are looked down upon for being bigots. A KKK member is not someone you should want your child to idolize.

I don't go to places where I'm not wanted.

Well, the KKK are a marginal group. They're not even fully racist, they dislike catholics, neither do they have a range of ideologues that have produced a solid ideology that is socially applicable. They're a marginal group, and they want to be a marginal group, so they stay as they are. A marginal group of protestant whites. I am posting in another site that houses nationalists of various countries, and even the white nationalists(from America) I've spoken to there think that the KKK are retarded. As I said, being retarded is something else, but being good, evil, or unmodern is not something for you to decide. You can claim that they are an organisation with a criminal past, they have committed murders and etc., but racism and ethnocentrism do not equal evil, as its generally the basis of all race relations in America as it seems, so why complain about one part, while ignoring the other part? No one really gets shamed for being a Black Panther member. On the other hand, the left in America used to associate with the Black Power movement, even though a nationalistic movement in itself, not just some "civil rights" thing as you think it is.

As you see, we get to the same spot where we started. They obviously are not concerned with the stigma they get from people like you.
