Well to be a fair critic to all religions, there are not, even in the orient widespread female leaders. You do find some in more westernized nations, but you wont see a female Dali Lama anytime soon.
I will say however that the religions of Abraham as written in the respective books do treat women as props as best and scapegoats for the most part.
I agree with Hitchens, you want to free the world from this mentality you have to give women more power.
