"A Manual for Creating Atheists" - ordered it

I haven't read the book, but I'm skeptical. It seems that if theism could be cured, it would have been by now.

That's why I say it's not exactly a manual.

A manual implies that if you follow these steps you will reach the desired conclusion. That's not what I got from the book. It was more about how to undermine the other person's certainty in faith - and that the only real way to do this, IMO, is through repeated conversations with someone who is open minded enough to consider your points.

This would never work on the fundy I know. She's too far gone, been in too deep for too long, and wouldn't even be willing to listen to the suggestion that maybe possibly what she believes isn't 100% true. I mean, if I could get her to admit that there's even a possibility that Christianity isn't 100% correct I would call that a win and walk away.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.

According to what Clueless Morgan said, I already do this all the time. I have one long term project going on, will report if the project ever becomes an atheist.

Wait, no, that's heartburn.

Try it in caps and with emoticons.

I think perhaps you've confused him with a fundie.

That's definitely obnoxious, and the guy's a dickwad. Though I'm interested in your review of it, JesusHChrist.

Oh come now. I'm sure atheists occasionally drop the caps bomb!

I might have to check into that book. For now I say we take the easy (or easier at least) route to creating atheists: improve science education. Forget the adults, they're not changing their minds. Let's teach these young minds about reality without the garbage of god thrown in and give it some time. Eventually we adults will die off leaving smarter children to run the world (hopefully).

Yes, completely agree. Get the young folk exposed to science. Convincing older people is a hard slog.

BTW, the book arrived, but been too busy to even crack it open.
