How many nuclear weapons were used on Iraqis?

RE: How many nuclear weapons were used on Iraqis?
If this is going to turn into a debate about whether we should use nukes, I'd say we shouldn't, but I can understand why someone would want to. In war, the quickest way to win in by maximizing destruction of the enemy and its supplies while minimizing destruction of ours. We used the first ones on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which I'm sure saved a ton of our troops while decimating those areas. Now from what I hear, people are still living in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Japan trades with us in at least some things. Not to mention we've made bombs that blow up in the air instead of on the ground, so it's less toxic to the land.

On the other hand, I am personally not involved in any wars. Not every member of Japan or USA was involved in WW2, and we'd all like it if our homes weren't attacked because our governments are fighting each other.

You forget for a nation not truly engaged in a life or death struggle, winning a war is just a method towards much more overarching aim. It is not the overarching or ultimate aim in itself. Therefore winning the war in the quickest way is not necessarily conducive to achieving the more overarching national aim.

For the US, the overarching aim is of course to ensure the security of united states and safeguard her hegemonic position in the world for as long as possible. Using nuclear weapons to win discretionary wars of limited significance encourages many more nations to regard it is vital for their own security to deter the united states with their own nuclear weapons. This would defeat the ultimate aim of the US by bring forward the day when American hegemony would be checkmated by a plethora of semi-friendly or unfriendly Nuevo-nuclear powers.

It is self-evident that the bombs dropped on Japan ended the war and doubtless saved hundreds of thousands of lives (both American and Japanese) by avoiding an invasion.

A more intriguing question might be: "Could we have gotten the same result by simply bombing an uninhabited island off the coast of Japan?"

As the story goes... The two scenarios were debated by the American leadership at the time and it was decided that scaring the shit out of the Russians was just as important as ending the war quickly.

PS: Depleted uranium shells do not an atomic weapon make. We most definitely DID NOT nuke Iraq.

I'm not sure if bombing an uninhabited island would work. I have heard that we didn't drop those bombs at the same time. We dropped one, and the emperor didn't care. Then we dropped another. I don't think dropping two somewhere that didn't effect Japan would have the same punch.

Granted, maybe if we sent the majority of our troops to the country that attacked us, instead of their allies, we might not have needed to bomb them. That's probably a different story, though.

For some reason japan is being talked about.... In that case is their any evidence that nuking Japan was a military tactic that was militarily necessary? If you believe it was, then quote 3 or more military leaders (high ranking) that at the time held that position. Hint: you won't find them.

Anywho, the thread was about the use of small scale tactical nuclear weapons on Iraq during the most recent invasion of Iraq. These small scale tactical nukes were used and there is lots of evidence that they were.... Including aside from on the ground evidence a US official saying recently "we should nuke Iran like we did Iraq".

Now I know how showing evidence goes in a forum, if you don't want to believe it then there is no amount of evidence that will suffice. So first you must tell me WHAT WOULD ENOUGH EVIDENCE BE to show that small scale tactical nukes were used in Iraq?

WHY is Japan being discussed?? Because YOU asked about when nukes should or shouldn't be used!!

Evidence that using them saved thousands of lives: WWII ended within days of our dropping nukes on Japan!!

YOU of all people have the nerve to get on anyone's case for NOT stating their evidence??? ROFLOL And YOUR evidence that nukes were used in Iraq is some vague reference to something you think somebody said???? IF nukes had been used don't you think a few other nations with observation satellites MIGHT have mentioned it???

Truly... I detest snide and snarky comments on forums like this, but YOU are a freakin' moron. (And your posts are more than ample evidence.)

RE: How many nuclear weapons were used on Iraqis?
Yeah, honestly, this seems kinda absurd.

1) Nuclear weapons have been used twice in human history, one right after the other, to end world war 2. Other than that, the closest we've had is nuclear tests and nuclear plant meltdowns (and even the later is rare).

2) There has never been any record of nuclear weapons used in Iraq. EVER. No soldiers in Iraq are suffering from the kind of radiation sickness that would have happened had anyone used nukes in Iraq.

3) You don't need to know the names of a bunch of different generals to have some understanding of what was going through Trumans' mind when he decided to use nuclear weapons. At best, I'm going to say it's something that's still highly debated today, but it's more than a little arrogant to claim you absolutely knew how to handle things.

4) OP sounds like a liberal version of Alex Jones: still a crazy conspiracy buff, but now you hate capitalism, too. That's judging not just from this post, but every post of his that I've seen.

5) Chairman Mao? Really? What on earth could possess you to choose someone like that for your profile pic?!? I mean, really, I'd respect you more if your profile pic was a Dalek!
