Clearly you didn't even read the Satanic Bible, as if you did you would have know that LaVey used ritual simply for emotional release. He even says in the Satanic Bible that the difference between Satanic and other religious ceremonies is that the Satanist knows his "magic" isn't actually going to do anything. I read the piece of crap. I didn't bother with the satanic rituals though, after reading the satanic bible I really couldn't stomach another book by him. I've read the Lemegeton, the Greater keys, the works of Corneleus Agrippa, Paracelsus and a load of others I can't even remember - most (if not all) of the important Hermetic texts and a fair amount of other random stuff too (I was particularly amused by the ritual to sell your soul for 20k). I would've added the Sepher Raziel to that list, but all the english translations I found were bollocks and I really couldn't be arsed to go through all the hassle of translating it myself. I very much doubt that anything written by that lying douche contains anything of note, just petty psychodrama which even LaVey admitted was just bullshit that was added to try to hold the rest it together.

So yeah, I might just know more about it than you think I do. LaVey was just another self-aggrandising, media-hungry little tit with delusions of adequacy and, as I previously stated elsewhere, an unhealthy fixation with Ming the Merciless. Even though he freely admitted that all the theatrics was just bollocks, he was clearly more interested in projecting an image than anything else (except perhaps money) and that farcical image is the only reason that anyone even knows who he his, without it he would have faded into remained in obscurity.

Please find me a quote where he says "this shit doesn't work. It's all just bullshit we do for fun." He talks at length about magic, and goes to great lengths to explain how to do it properly including "the balancing factor" (ooOOoo) where he explains the target of your magic can't be too lofty or unattainable. What does this mean in practice? It means that magic only "works" when its more easily explainable through coincidence. If it didn't work, you must not be using the balance factor correctly. If it did "work", its definitely not a coincidence.

Have I read the whole Satanic bible? No. It's so full of errors and crap I couldn't be bothered. I only have so much time.
