Women reclaiming the word SLUT

If we go with the usual intended meaning, i.e. the standard dictionary definition of SLUT ("a promiscuous woman"), is it a good idea for women to attempt to reclaim the word for themselves? Can it be done? If not, why not?
Nigger (nigga) and queer have more or less been reclaimed, at least to a large extent, so I wonder if it's doable with slut. Slut has been used for a long time, just like the other two words, but nigger (nigga) and queer have been reclaimed quite successfully.
What are the pros and cons of reclaiming the word SLUT?

Pros:
Slut is a sexist word directed against women. Being a slut is considered wrong yet the male equivalent (a player) is considered awesome. Women reclaiming the word 'slut' would be a good thing but I can't see when they would ever use it. There are no cons.

While I appreciate the attempt to reclaim, rebrand, and defang a word like "nigger," has it really worked? Or has it only worked in the African American community?
When white boys call each other "nigga," is that a good thing, or bad? It makes me feel slightly uncomfortable that kids would be so unaware of the vicious, bloody history of that word that they would casually use it. Is that indicative of its success? Or is that success a double-edged sword?

Slut is also a horrible word. I hear girls calling each other this all the time, so the reclaiming has begun, but my experience is that girls are also using it in a sexually judgmental way. "Nigga" is about claiming race. "Slut" is about claiming... bad sexual behavior?
It saddens me to hear girls use this word on each other lightly.

I suppose it could just become another word for promiscuous. That is what it means, after all. If men can call themselves and each other players, why can't women call themselves and each other sluts? What with so many promiscuous women around now, I would have thought now is the best time to start. And if a man can be called a player by a woman and hold his head up high and say "yeah", why can't women learn to do the same? I don't see why they should have a problem with doing that. It would be a quick and easy way to disarm the insult.

All the more reason to reclaim it. Lots of women are sluts these days, to the point where reclaiming it shouldn't be a huge challenge, due to the vast numbers of them. What I don't understand is why, even though so many women are very promiscuous nowadays, it's still so easy to be shamed for their conduct.

I think it should be reclaimed.
My hero, the Marquis de Sade declared that the most lovable women & truest of philosophers were sluts. I tend to agree.

No. Seriously, it is already happening. Some of my stepson's friends call themselves sluts in a positive way. Essentially they're saying "I like sex", "I'm not buying any of the guilt associated with that" and "no, I'm not going act all meek in order to avoid being violated by big strong men".

Good point. However, isn't it a problem when that message isn't clear to others? Is it appropriate for white boys to call black boys "nigga," since the word has been reclaimed? Is it appropriate for boys to call girls "sluts" once the word has been reclaimed? There is no guarantee that the meaning of the reclaimed word will be the same to all groups- and mightn't it further the cultural divide? Or do you think ultimately such words are totally defanged if given enough time- to the extent that it's totally OK for white boys to use the term "nigga" because they see if as a cool expression of brotherhood instead of as an insult?

I think black hip hop artists are responsible for the whole nigga thing.
I only have to think for a few seconds and I can think of 3 songs that repeatedly chant nigga in the main chorus chorus.

Maybe if women start creating popular music that chants things like Quote: thats my slut right there, kill all those other sluts, when these sluts gonna learn, I'm the last real slut alive.
But slut is a bit different from nigga or queer anyway.
Queer is a gay man there's no real negative things about being gay, you can be gay and not be promiscuous.
Nigger is a black person.
Slut is a bit negative because it's a lifestyle choice which can be dangerous because of STD's and unwanted pregnancies.
