I'm generally against marriage because it is a ridiculous concept, rooted in the ownership of women (as seen in the traditional wedding ceremony, when the father "gives away" his prize cow daughter to the groom.) That said, marriage is a right, and no couple should be denied any rights due to their sexuality or gender.
I've supported the Coalition For Equal Marriage throughout their successful campaign (29th of March, yay!) and will continue to support marriage equality (trans people still won't be able to marry yet) until any couple can get married if they so wish, or until we do away with marriage altogether.

"Marriage is a right" I totally agree, it is a religious right performed by a religious community in accordance with their interpretation of their doctrine.
To say everyone has a right to be married in accordance with a specific interpretation of a religious doctrine, irrespective of whether they meet the criteria denies that sects right to freedom of religion.

Since marriage predates the current religions by a handsome margin and there are plenty of non religious marriages out there( Kichi and I are such), I would venture to opine that the whole debate is merely the religious right whining because they are no longer allowed to bully people that are different to them.

For me, it came down to doing some honest thinking, and I was totally unable to come up with one good reason why gay marriage shouldn't be allowed. And every argument I've ever seen against gay marriage is totally stupid and ridiculous. Gay marriage isn't going to affect my marriage at all, so you can't claim it's "hurting" traditional marriage.
And even if you're against gay marriage and think it should be outlawed, you could pass all the laws you want against it but banning gay marriage is never going to make homosexuality disappear. Gay people will still continue to live together in domestic partnerships with or without a marriage license, so they might as well have all the rights and benefits as everyone else.
And frankly, the writing is on the wall. Gay marriage will eventually be legal in all 50 states, so you can either embrace equality or sit there ranting about how terrible the country has become like some old racist after civil rights legislation in the 60's.

Sorry, but you are mistaken. Plenty of non-religious people get married. In Scotland, for example, Humanist Weddings are expected to overtake Kirk Weddings as the most popular type of wedding within 2 years. Looks like Religious Weddings are slowly on their way out.

I know. It's kinda absurd some of the people who believe this. My inlaws are convinced it's true, even though their church, Mormons, won't let most straght people have a temple wedding. It seems they think the government is going to force them to let gay couples get married at their temples.... just not the straight ones.

I think people should call their relationships whatever to fuck they want. What matters to me is that when I get a marriage license from a state office that it would not be any kind of religious artifact. Religious people can go on wrapping marriage in whatever primitive ceremony they wish. Fine by me. But the force of law should be equal for all parties regarding the rights and responsibilities of anyone taking out a marriage license from the state. I'm going to go on saying I'm married to my wife and intend by that nothing to do with any primitive religious ritual. I don't need their sanction for using the word. Fuck the "defenders of marriage" .. hard .. in the ass .. without any lubrication.

Marriage is now a contractual, civil right. Plenty of people visit a justice of the peace to get married. They have no need of some silly shaman in a funny hat. A civil marriage license suffices.
