Number crunching curios

Number crunching curios
Our recent numerologist member made me remember this curious calculation, that all kids adore!

12345679 * 9 = 111111111

Now, if you multiply by any number, you get all 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9

12345679 * 18 (this is 9*2) = 222222222
12345679 * 27 (9*3) = 333333333
12345679 * 36 (9*4) = 444444444
12345679 * 45 (9*5) = 555555555
12345679 * 54 (9*6) = 666666666
12345679 * 63 (9*7) = 777777777
12345679 * 72 (9*8) = 888888888
12345679 * 81 (9*9) = 999999999

And another cool detail:
12345679 * 9 * 9 * 12345679 = 12345678987654321

I thought the "times tables" went up to 12 for younglings? I am only 25 so this isn't a "when I was at school" rant, nobody else have to go to 12?

I'm too old for that... In my days, all tables only went up to 10... And 10 wouldn't work as pleasantly here, but feel free to try it out!

9 is an interesting number.
09= 0+9=9
18= 1+8=9
27= 2+7=9
36 =3+6=9
45 =4+5=9
54 =5+4=9
63 =6+3=9
72 =7+2=9
81 =8+1=9
90 =9+0=9
You'll also notice that the numerals mirror image each in the columns and complete numerical sequences.

Tap 5318008 into a calculator and turn it upside down. Now there's a number with true power! Wink Shades
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

It works the other way round too.

And the fun of dividing by nine, too.
1/9 = 0.111111...
2/9 = 0.222222...
3/9 = 0.333333...
4/9 = 0.444444...
5/9 = 0.555555...
6/9 = 0.666666...
7/9 = 0.777777...
8/9 = 0.888888...
9/9 = 0.999999...

This made me think of a trick for multiplying with 9. Put your hands in front of you, all fingers stretched. If you want to know what e.g. 3x9 is, you just fold your third finger from the left (the left hand middle finger). Two fingers remain on the left side of the folded finger, seven on the right, so 3x9=27. Pretty neat Big Grin
