Atheism Tattoo --- Hypocritical?

All of my tattoos are reminders to never get another one.

As a long-term atheist, I'd advise against getting the tattoo. Sure, you might identify strongly as an atheist now. But, generally speaking, non-believers eventually grow out of atheism and graduate to humanism. Thereafter atheism often holds little interest for them, they've moved on to the more interesting subject of how to live well without religion. Atheism is just a phase for most people.

That's funny, I didn't realise atheism and humanism were mutually exclusive.
If atheism is just a phase, why don't you go ahead and phase out of AtheistForums.org

That's not what I meant. Obviously atheists never stop being atheists. It's just that the topic of atheism becomes a complete bore after a while, and the topic of how to live without religion is much more interesting. If I had an atheist tattoo I'd be reminded daily of a completely boring topic. (Obviously "completely boring" does not mean 100% disinterest in the topic, I'm speaking generally).

Maybe for you?

Personally, the transition from stupidity to atheism resulted in few substantial changes to my life, so it's not a topic that fascinates me much.

I don't see how it's hypocritical to get an atheist tattoo.

SOme of those displayed are awesome.

Perhaps I should get one: my Catholic mother's head would explode!

An atheist tattoo could be seen as hypocritical because atheists tend to go where the evidence points them. We like to think that we are open minded so if there was new evidence that suggested there was a god, we would consider it and might even convert. Having a permanent symbol on your body kind of negates that

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

"If my good friend Doctor Gasparri speaks badly of my mother, he can expect to get punched.....You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others. There is a limit." - Pope Francis on freedom of speech

If anything, Christian tattoos are hypocritical. I see nothing wrong with Atheist tattoos. I posted mine in the member photo thread, but I just now saw this thread. My bad.
