Random fact about two year anniversaries: that's when I found out my uncle was gay! Smile on his anniversary, not mine, but he had broken up with his boyfriend by then, and it's a long, weird story...

So, I never really paid attention at family gatherings, which were mainly presents and food. For all long time, my Uncle Scott and 'Uncle Dino' (dee-no) would show up together. They were never romantic or anything, and as I grew up, I was told he was just a close friend or something. And, he was just kind of there. I never really thought much about it. And, then, he moved to Hawaii for a job; my Uncle Scott was upset, Dino - never mentioned again. Uncle Scott brought a new "buddy" to family gatherings. However, my mother used to keep track of anniversararies and such on an iPod, and she gave the iPod to me. One day, a reminder showed for "Scott and Dino anniversary" and that was when all the dots finally connected in my brain. Derp. I felt like an idiot, because all signs were there, in neon. No girlfriend or wife, guy "friends", likes musicals (not necessarily a 'gay thing' but still...) The point is, if I had given one thought to his relationship with other humans outside the family, I would've noticed.
Anyway, I decide to ask my mom, just in case I'm wrong. I go into her office, sit down, and say, "Ok, I'll just cut to the chase." She sighs and goes, "Did you get another detention?"
"No. Is Uncle Scott gay?"
She turns around and gives me this 'no shit, Sherlock', then keeps typing. "What do you think?"
We talked for a bit, and that was that. That was pretty much the highlight of my Thanksgiving break.

I'm not really sure why they didn't tell me or my siblings. I think my mom just thought it wasn't really our business, and kids don't care about relationshit anyway.
Had an interesting conversation with my 9-year-old brother when I told him about Uncle Scott:
Him: "Why does it seem like more guys are gay than girls?"
Me: "Well, I don't really know, but girls who like other girls are called lesbians."
"Lesbians? What is this, Spanish class?"

I have no idea where he got that from, as our Spanish teacher is the worst... Ah, 9-year-olds...
