On the logic of nationalism

I decided to create this thread after seeing a post in Egoraptor's thread on how people were actually ignorant of what nationalism is.

Before going into nationalism, I think its best to define the concept of a nation.
A nation is basically a collection of people who have a common language, common history, common culture and in many cases, common blood and ancestry.
A nation is built on the consciousness of the aforementioned parameters, and it brings people with similar traits together in action and thought.
Nations have existed throughout the centuries, but ideologies have only been recently established as a basis for political entities that are built on the national identity.

Nationalism is the broad name for a wide range of ideologies based on many different national identities. As its name implies, its often specific to the nation it is born into, and its main goals are the protection and propagation of the national identity, and the advancement of its goals.

Indeed. If nationalism was in effect in many countries today, international companies would not have a free hand on the economies of others, as a country would shield itself and its people from foreign interests, cultural degredation and domination.
International relations would not be one-way streets, but would work along ethical lines of mutual benefit.

We need separate counties and separate nations because they are separate races of people, who share different values, different religions, cultures, social norms, and many other things that make us all different. Now different does not mean one is better then the other, it just means not the same.

You can't force people to all live and work together, we are different! We should have peace yes, and no violence. Yet you are advocating for a violent overthrow of nations and religions.... ok... quite the communist thing to say. We can do it peacefully and bring peace to this earth in a non-violent fashion, you are the one who wants violence not I.

Nations are what binds people together, when you end up with a nation with no identity you have destruction violence and chaos. You have conflicting views and cultures.

You need to understand that race is just not a skin color.
