The Computer Thread

RE: The Computer Thread
Secured connections will fail to verify in an event of a DNS rewrite attack. Only unsecured connections are really vulnerable to the hijacking this creates. Or ones that override/ignore the SSL error.

This is a form of a man in the middle attack, except the man is your router.

Furthermore, if you use a browser like Google Chrome which has visited the site with specific headers presented, then it will refuse to allow any SSL stripping attack (What one usually does to hijack SSL sessions during a man in the middle attack) even if you remove subsequent headers from future connections to that site. Some browsers come with a prepackaged list of websites that must always have SSL/TLS enabled.

Google is one of those candidates.

So the articles fear of getting a "bad Google" is completely unfounded. Other sites that are unsecured are vulnerable to MITM though.

I hate really stupid analogies when they simply cannot work technically due to current configuration.

With discipline, education and a professional interest into understanding how software is constructed, how common attacks were discovered and how to think about network security.

The journey begins in the stack.

Quote:NSA’s automated hacking engine offers hands-free pwning of the world

Since 2010, the National Security Agency has kept a push-button hacking system called Turbine that allows the agency to scale up the number of networks it has access to from hundreds to potentially millions. The news comes from new Edward Snowden documents published by Ryan Gallagher and Glenn Greenwald in The Intercept today. The leaked information details how the NSA has used Turbine to ramp up its hacking capacity to “industrial scale,” plant malware that breaks the security on virtual private networks (VPNs) and digital voice communications, and collect data and subvert targeted networks on a once-unimaginable scale.

I believe I fall into the nerd category for pc's.
I was a level 3 tech support for 250 users for 15 years.
I've had my same full tower case for a very long time. No panels on it ...only amateurs have panels! hehe
I've been using custom water cooling for about 10 years now ... before kits were available.
I've just upgraded to the latest i7 4770K (unlocked) with a gigabyte Z87XUD5H board.
This setup is good for 5 years at least... only graphics may need changing in a few years.
I play lots of 3d games. If you only need light stuff, can't help you much.

happy to help with IT support, but I've been out of it professionally for a few years now, but I'll do my best.
No God, No fear.

Microsoft had developed cross platform (Xbox - PC) networked play for either Halo or Halo 2 back in the day. It never saw the light of day because in testing the PC games curbstomped the console gamers. Every. Single., Time.

Also, here is my main PC. I built it a few years ago, but it still handles anything I throw at it. I gotta say, the Sentey case is pretty awesome. The HEPA filter screens keep the insides almost completely dust free. Not shown below, but it also has a 750w Corsair Bronze certified power supply.
