Predicted Next GOP Presidential Candidate

RE: Predicted Next GOP Presidential Candidate
The problem is that your theory bases itself solely on the past trend without consideration for the current conditions. The only reason that Santorum was the runner-up in 2012 was because there was no other "moderate" other than Romney. We have seen from the past two elections that the utter batshit insane jokes of political candidates have no chance in hell of winning the nomination since they aren't able to "moderate" their stance under certain situations. Santorum is the type of person that will be utterly unwilling to bow in to party pressure to tone it down a bit. If he is actually the most moderate candidate they can thrown in for the next election then the Republicans as a party are officially screwed at that point.

Dude. I hope Santorum winds up the nominee. We'll have so much fun with ol' frothy Rick. Plus, I don't see how he could possibly win a general election; the moderate voters who actually decide the elections are terrified of fringe nuts like Santorum. I mean, they've pretty consistantly voted approval for gay marriage, so I have to imagine it's going to be easy to paint Santorum as the religious extremist he is.

There is no way that Santorum will win the nomination he has no chance of winning the presidency and most GOP registered voters are more interested in winning that electing the extreme candidate which is why McCain and Romney were nominated.

I would be surprised if Chris Christie was NOT nominated however his main threat is Marco Rubio who is credible.Santorum ,if he does enetr, will be forced to pull out and back Rubio.

Expecting a Clinton walkover is extremely silly. I wanted Clinton 8 years ago rather than the inept annointed messiah. Clinton has wisely kept out of the limelight as Obama has entered his least popular phase yet Clinton will need to show clear blue water between her and Obama because Chris Christie is looking moderate and able. I still think Clinton will probably take it (and that is allowing for my inbuilt bias towards her) but it won't be simple'.

Christie is looking like a mafia thug.

Besides, he hugged Obama. He's dead to the GOP base.

It certainly hasn't stopped them from supporting other extreme candidates at various points. I mean, there was a point when Michelle Bachmann was a front runner and even Herman Cain had his moment in the sun. In fact, if Cain hadn't completely fucked up his handling of a scandal popping up mid-campaign, he likely could have been their nominee and he was honestly less prepared to be president than anyone else in the GOP primaries.

The movers and shakers who actually understand politics want a moderate candidate who can win elections, but when it comes to the base voters, with the frothy rage Faux News, Infowars and Rush Limbaugh have gotten them into, they'll instantly reject any sign of deviance from their rigid ideology. They're going to have to let up on their extreme rhetoric or else they're going to create an extreme base that scares away moderates who actually decide elections.

It's pretty rare to find an extremist who thinks of themselves as extreme. They just find another group who's even more extreme and say "I'm really a moderate! I mean, look how crazy they are!"
