Predicted Next GOP Presidential Candidate

Predicted Next GOP Presidential Candidate
OK, I've noticed a pattern.

1976: Reagan is the runner up in the primary, becomes nominee in 1980.

1980: HW Bush is the runner up in the primary, becomes nominee in 1988.

1984: No primary challenge, Reagan runs for re-election.

1988: Bob Dole is the runner up in the primary, becomes nominee in 1996.

1992: No primary challenge, HW Bush runs for re-election.

1996: Pat Buchanan is the runner up in the primary, pattern is broken this time.

2000: John McCain is the runner up in the primary, becomes nominee in 2008.

2004: No primary challenge, W Bush runs to be elected

2008: Romney is the runner up in the primary, becomes nominee in 2012.

2012: Santorum is the runner up in the primary...

So 5/6 times, the runner up one year is the nominee the next go round. Based on this trend, Santorum could be the next Republican nominee.

Wait a minute. Total of six times. Three runner ups become the nominee four years later. Two runner ups become the nominee eight years later. One runner up falls down a mine shaft.

So 50/50 shot he becomes the nominee in 2016.

That's because there is no primary when the sitting president is of the same political party. The party always runs its sitting president virtually uncontested during the primary season.

Theoretically, a sitting president can be challenged within his/her own party during the primary but that hasn't happened since 1980. It's virtually unheard of.

If he wins the Presidency in 2016, I'm seriously considering moving to Toronto. And, quite honestly, if Santorum wins, I have to wonder; who'd be fucked up enough to be the second-placer?

If Santorum is the nominee it pretty much guarantees another democratic president.

Santorum is certainly stupid enough to appeal to the jackasses who form the base of the republicunt party. He's qualified.

No, actually a good point for me to clarify, especially for non-Americans.

With Jersey the Hutt closing down the lanes to any chance of him winning the nomination, any candidate the GOP puts forth is going to be a sacrificial lamb against Hillary Clinton.
