Fukushima radiation
#11
RE: Fukushima radiation
I have a friend who has posted a number of those radiation maps, he is convinced that there is a wave of radiation that will, I dunno... turn us all into glowing lizard people, or something. He buys into pretty much every conspiracy theory, though. If the government was doing one-fifth of the stuff he believes it is, the planet would probably be a lifeless husk by now.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Sounds like he is trying to find an excuse for already having the mental acuity of a lizard.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are actually pretty confident that radiation will disperese rapidly and never reach the US at all. It's actually not that significant of an event for us. Conspiracy theorists love to create panic. It's like they are really bored or something... hmmm.
