I was once asked if I was alright when I went up to the counter to buy something, simply because I was so awkward. Thankfully I am getting better with that. One my other issues is I tend to offend people & then be unable to give a fuck, which does not endear me to anyone.

So are you getting any help with the coping skills? Is there any organisations in your local area?

My son has been a 24 year project for me and I had the support of the family in getting him able to cope with things like large family gatherings and shopping.
I see a social worker. She helps me deal with that & my depression.

The horrible close mindedness of some people completely disgusts me..

It might be a bit silly me saying welcome as I've only been here a few days myself, but welcome to the forum Smile

Sorry some of us yanks are proving to be scumbags. I don't know NEKY at all. Not near any big cities whatsoever?

(my only brush with KY has been the Cincy airport)

Well, not near what I would personally call a big city, although I don't know that much about Charleston, WV, which has the nearest airport to here that people regularly use. We're about two hours' drive away from places like Columbus, OH, and Lexington, KY. The nearest official "city" is Ashland, here in KY, which is a teeny place really, and is unfortunately full of unique and family-owned businesses that are closing down.

I forgot about Chas., WV. That's at least maybe 50,000, and fairly near Huntington, which is another 50,000. Never been, but have heard of them. I used to live in Pittsburgh, and chased their gymnastics team to WVU, in Morgantown, one time. Saw Chas. on the local news.

Yeah, small towns are a bit sad in the mid-Atlantic and other nearby areas. People are a bit stuck in their ways to adapt economically. And government maybe reflects that, and doesn't want to help out too much. Otherwise, those small towns could be so dynamic and interesting.
