Can your father and his friends conduct a conversation with each other while speaking in tongues? Can they tell you what they were saying to each other? If not, i'll have to conclude that they are literally speaking gibberish. And in fact it has been proved. Some study somewhere (look it up, I can't be bothered to) showed that people speaking in tongues use the same noises for completely different meanings.
