I think you should have read the Snopes article all the way to the bottom where it is noted that Duncan's conclusions were invalid because the sample size was too small and his methods of measuring weight too imprecise.

Why should I believe what anyone says then?

Believe it if you can verify that it is true. Anecdotes about the existence of a god are largely anecdotes about personal experiences that are unverifiable. Be highly dubious of such anecdotes.
