It's really a shame that gun owners have such a bad reputation. The guys that I know who own multiple firearms are really great responsible people who have no interest in harming anyone. It's the irresponsible dimwits that have blackened a really fun positive sport/hobby.
I took a pistol safety course with the NRA. Those were some redneck motherfuckers. Their truck horns played "Dixie" and they had rebel flags and called Obama a Muslim and everything (this was during Obama's first presidential campaign). Guess who did not mention that she was a lesbian leftist atheist feminist vegetarian hippie chick? *Points to self* This person! If they were cool, I would have probably taken up rifle shooting as a sport. I think I would be good at it. I was a pretty good shot with a pistol, left or right-handed.

I take it you live down south with Stupid America. That's what I call the portion of this country that has all the Bible thumping, Jesus sucking, Gun worshiping, Nascar loving worthless dipshits in it. It seriously, isn't that way up here. Sure we've got our handful of gun nuts, but for the most part, I've met a LOT of smart, laid-back, completely rational people who just happen to enjoy sport shooting.

You can always start your own group of marksmen (markswomen) and ignore the redneck fucktards.

Looks like a really nice little rifle, Cinjin Great

I have fairly limited experience with guns, and happily so, but I certainly get the appeal. I went shooting a couple of times with some mates of mine who lived on a dairy farm. We went spotlighting wallabies which are a huge pest, plus we prepared and ate them (as well as feeding them to the family's massive dog) so we weren't just shooting them for the hell of it. I have to say, I'm a pretty good shot and I had a lot of fun doing it, and given the chance I'd do it again.
I have no desire to own a gun myself, however.

According to max Brooks "zombie survival guide" (a really good read" a 0.22 can be an excellent choice. So we'll played!

Out of interest, how much does something like that set you back?

I love the look of that Cinjin. I'm jealous.

I have a few airsoft guns but that's it. I'll probably get a few more in the next year or so. I like the fact they get a lot of use out in the woods skirmishing, nobody gets hurt and its a lot of fun.

I'd like to go target shooting with an air rifle or .22 in the future. Problem is there isn't anywhere very close and I don't drive. Once I get that sorted and I have some experience with one I'd probably buy a rifle.

The more I read the UK firearms laws the more I like them. They pretty much just force common sense.

Depending on where you get one, it retails for between $320 to $350 US.
There are certainly cheaper .22 caliber rifles to be had, but the Ruger 10/22 is considered to be one of the top 3 rifles (of that caliber) you can own.

Indeed it does. And it is more than a "good read", it is an essential read! I carry my copy in my bag at all times. You never know when shit will go down. Wink

Nice rifle, Cinjin. I bought my 10-22 way back in the dark ages when the standard model was all there was - I think it set me back about $150. Since then I added a scope, and a Volquartsen trigger job. Very fun to shoot, I only wish it would cycle CB longs (very low power, low noise cartridges). Definitely one of the best general purpose 22s around.

I consider that one of Max's bit of bad advice. You ever tried head shooting a zombie and destroying the brain with a .22LR?

I thought this thread was about...something else. I guess I should delete this picture I took...
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
