Internet Speed [2014 edition :P]

This is AT&T fiber, at my fiance's place, though my laptop is actually connected via wifi.

It has gone to absolute shit since the latest SCotUS ruling in regard to the FCC. It was at least 3x faster than this beforehand. Her download speed is actually slower than the DSL at my place.

Thanks a lot, neo-cons.

Even 3x faster than that is pretty shitty for fiber. I'm wondering if there's something else going on, because if anything, ISPs have an incentive to game speedtest results (and they theoretically can, given they know which servers are used).

The ping time alone tells me something is very amiss.

(Don't misunderstand - I don't doubt that AT&T does traffic shaping at all. Just not here.)

At *least* 3 times faster. I didn't actually run a Speedtest on it. I know this because I got a new laptop at about the same time & I was reloading my Steam games (Skyrim, Fallout: NV, etc) on it & it was very speedy. Exactly one week after that ruling, the internet went to shit here. Steam included. Took way longer than it should have for my fiance's kid to download Goat Simulator earlier this week.

I get that - and the timing of it is certainly suspect. But again, the last place you'd expect to see traffic shaping is against known benchmark servers. All I'm suggesting is that it's possible that there's something more to it than that.

You do make a good point, will give them a call when I get back from the doctor.

VERY nice. I have you on upload and ping, but meh I'd rather have your download rates.
