Something that breaks physics or can't be explained by natural processes.

What about the people who claim that God is natural, not supernatural, so the evidence for his existence would then be natural, not supernatural?

Then we should see evidence of him. Unless you want to call the universe or nature itsself god, we don't have evidence of some intelligent creator influencing our universe.

The issue is most certainly on the definition. I've spoken to people who, like Morgan stipulates, view god as everything, where everything constitutes god in order to make them make sense of the world they live in (god is the weather, god is the sun, god is the air I breath etc) rather than a tangible, physical entity as described in the Abrahamic religions.

Of course one could argue that's more an existentialist response to the world we live in as opposed to one with any sort of definitive proof.

Arguably I think the above is more concrete albeit equally absurd as the tangible god hypothesis. I mean, rain exists after all, and we can prove it. There was a poster on another Atheist forum I frequent who revealed that she worshipped 'nature' like it was a god. But rather than just be a tree-hugging sort of worshipper, she actually believed it was a sort of sentient being/organism/entity/essence. Again, impossible to prove without proof, but it has the tangible element to which an Abrahamic god does not (or at least used to according to the Torah, but now does not for some reason).

As always, Ben lays it down the way I see it:

Against: Theistic gods, as defined, cannot possibly exist. Deistic gods, as defined, might as well not exist.

I was raised christian, so I never believed in a god that is the universe and the trees and all that. It seems pointless. Just call the volcano a volcano. It cannot be appeased by throwing things inside. It doesn't want anything, or command anything, or have an ability beyond just being a volcano.

I like how you're parroting things I've said now. Smile

Probably the best argument against the existence of God... depends on which aspect of God you're arguing against. Hard to think of a comprehensive argument against the entirety of the God concept. I mean, I could run the following on-the-spot ontological argument:

Quote:1) If metaphysical naturalism is true in any possible world, then God - a being who must exist in all possible worlds if he exists in any of them - does not exist in any possible world.

2) Metaphysical naturalism is true in at least one possible world.

3) Therefore God does not exist.

Of course, like ontological arguments for God's existence this argument doesn't show anything at all.

really no argument for god is best simply because the lack of evidence to back it up, their argument always just falls back as an assumption.

as to against god, everything else including science...

it isn't in our nature to think of a God, it is in our nature to seek answers and the concept of God is most influenced in this world.

Best argument against god: EVERYTHING ABOUT THEISM IS COMPLETELY STUPID, AND ALSO GOD DOES NOT EXIST.
Best argument for God: A good argument for God does not exist.
