The Big Bang Theory (TV Show) Bugbear (Nerd Alert)

RE: The Big Bang Theory (TV Show) Bugbear (Nerd Alert)
I like BBT as well, i just have two gripes. The gender roles in the beginning were a bit too stereotypical, which they remedied with some strong women later on, in particular Bernadette. Also, they got too bogged down in relationship quarrels, and at times the Rajesh-Howard relationship got a bit too annoying. MOAR science instead plz!

It is nagging at the back of my nerdy mind that in the Second Season episode 'The Codpiece Topology' where the guys visit a renaissance fair Sheldon is heard to say,

"It was rife with historical inaccuracies... "

A few minutes later he then says,

"That was not fifteenth century soap, my God those people need to learn you can’t just put “ye olde” in front of anything and expect to get away with it."

This really bugs me. The 'Y' used in 'Ye' is not a 'Y' but the Middle English letter 'thorn',

which is pronounced 'th'.

So Sheldon, being the smarty pants of the group and ought to know better, should have pronounced it "the" not "yee" (this goes for anyone who pronounces it as "yee" [ji] and not 'the'). He was wrong.

I feel much better now I got that off my chest.

I'm delighted thou pointed yis out. Wiyout constant vigilance, yis sort of ying could yeriously damage programmes like 'Ye Big Bang Yeory'.

In fact, just thesterday, I yought about how often thokels and thammerheads yink yeth're right when yeth couldn't be grammaticallth correct if thou pointed it out to yem.

Yank thou for thour conyideration.

No, but I've often thought it was a cruel bastard who put the sibilant 's' sound in the word 'lisp'.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

Alas, the writers are no Sheldons...
Also, the public must relate... and everything must fit into 22 minutes... .too many explanations ruin it for the audience.

I'm the audience too, or did you just Venn me out with the cunning deployment of a subset?

"the audience" is the average joe that watches the show.
I'd agree that, for this particular show, the average joe has somewhat higher mental capabilities than the average joe for a few other shows... but the difference may not be as substantial as you'd expect...

I've learned not to expect anything. I'm an easily amused primate.
