I can speed read and comprehend at very close to the same level at reading at a slow pace. It took quite a bit of practice and really doesn't do me much good in life. The way I learned was initially I started reading two words at a time rather than one and then four and then ultimately in blocks of text. It helps to hold books slightly farther away than normal. I learned from an online tutorial. However when reading for pleasure I don't speed read unless what I'm reading starts to get boring. During college it was very useful, nowadays the only time I really speed read is occasionally on these forums.
