How did god create the universe?

RE: How did god create the universe?
(April 18, 2014 at 2:46 am)Freedom of thought Wrote: Often god is the explanation for the existence of the universe by people of faith, but even if you accept something like the cosmological argument you still have another question to deal with: How did god create the universe, if he indeed did create it? And if you don't know how god can create a universe, how can you seriously accept god as an explanation? You're replacing the question we don't know the answer to: "How did the universe come into existence?". With another question: "How did god make the universe come into existence?". A mystery is replaced with another mystery that we will never know.

I think for most of them, they stop caring about explaining it, since introspection tends to lead to cognitive dissonance on these matters. So, it's probably nice just to accept it and move on...

I think this is really the best answer you're going to get. No one knows how magic works, but they believe in it anyway.

Thinking too much about the little details is usually discouraged among theists. It causes many people to pull away from the flock.

Yahweh spoke things into existence. That's all you need to know. Now get on your knees and thank him for sacrificing himself to himself, to save us from a punishment he imposed on us, due to a curse he placed on our ancestors.

I imagine any immortal fictional character with inhuman abilities could be considered godly in comparison to mundane humans.

God is a supernatural being, and therefore we can let our imaginations run wild. Notice that theistic explanations of stuff like the worldwide flood and Noah's ark tend to run aground (cough) when they try to minimize the supernatural aspects of it. Applying magic without restraint is awesome; trying to fit it into the world we actually live in gets tricky if we start to ask questions.

Example: the Incredible Hulk is an awesome concept as long as we don't ask why Bruce Banner didn't die from radiation poisoning, or why he doesn't wear shirts made from the same stretch fabric as his pants, or why he doesn't just burn up from the energy expenditure of suddenly gaining or losing 1,700 pounds of mass in a matter of seconds.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

This is one reason why we will give account for every useless word, and by our words we will be justified or by our words we will be condemned.
That's.... special.

In what reality would this make any sense? Even in fantasy, that would be considered ridiculous.

Sorry "Professor," but that's not an answer to the question any more than a good answer to "how are hotdogs made?" is "meat." It doesn't surprise me that a christian would give a "what?" answer to a "how?" question, because it's exactly the same non-answer that's at the center of the OP.

You say god created shit with words, and my next question is this: how the fuck does that work? You've just pushed the problem back a step, like a dumbass. You saw the problem the OP sees, and you decided a good answer to it would be to double down on the problem itself.

The universe had to have a cause. That cause was god. What caused god? Nothing. He's eternal. Can't the universe just be eternal then? No. Now start praising.
