Arms around the shoulder or holding hands would be as far as I'd go in a family picture. Of course I'd never do one of these marriage promises. I'm not pro abstinence only.

I can respect a young woman who chooses to wait for sex. Not necessarily for marriage but until she's a but older. I don't think it's any of her father's business that she has made such a choice and I find having a father daughter picture for the no sex til marriage vow disturbing regardless of how they're posed. I'm not saying these guys are bad or that they're as creepy as the pictures make them look. But it really is creepy.

I think as far as protecting a minor goes, the parent should give them as many facts about sex as possible. You inform your children because it is your duty to teach and guide a minor, but they need to be allowed to make decisions for themselves. That's what a good parent would do. Not giving misinformation, or demanding that they shouldn't touch themselves or let others touch them, like some people do.

I think that those who are already believing Christians know full well the fornication is a grave sin, and will do well to abstain from it. Do they need a pledge to do so?

That's what I find so bizarre about this particular christian way of thinking about sex: name one other thing, anywhere, where ignorance and not education is the best way to protect against its negative effects. It not only goes against everything we know about how young minds work, but also against simple logic; you teach your kids about every other thing in their life as a way to get them to approach it all safely, and yet when it comes to sex the best thing these parents can think of is to gate it off behind this wall of ignorance and mystery, as if that means their kids will never get curious or be exposed to it.

Frankly, I think it speaks more to the fact that they would be uncomfortable talking to their kids honestly about sex, than it does their confidence in the process by which they intend to educate about it.

I think that there's this denial going on that the body tries its darndest to get people to have sex. Women aren't expected to want it at all in some cases. It's like they equate not have sex or masturbating to not eating junk food. Just don't do it, and you'll be fine. Except that the sexual drive is string enough that people don't even need to be around what they're attracted to in order to get horny. Hell, I've gotten a hard on from the friction in my pants. I expect women would be similarly effected.
