I like lots of religious music, including all that roots Americana on the soundtrack of "Oh, Brother Wherefore Art Thou?", some from "Transamerica" and most of Charlie Haden's "Rambling Boy".

And then there is this: http://youtu.be/fYi9Vr8bHJY

Lots of music by Patty Griffin including the entire "Downtown Church" album and this earlier one for which I could find footage of her singing it herself on youtube: http://youtu.be/p_AHpwjP8G4

Lots of things by Jody Stecher & Kate Brislin who do a great job of keeping their music off youtube (dammit). But here is Mavis Staple singing "Hard Times" recorded for the Stephen Foster tribute album:

One more. There is a group that does traditional music in authentic style -which means many religious songs on this album "American Angels" and others.

Well at least he didn't go with Barbara Streisand. (I think I may have one gay ear.)

I've posted this before, but it bears repeating. Easily the best performance of one of my favourite Christmas songs of all time.

There are others - 'Greensleeves', 'The Holly and The Ivy', 'Lord Of The Dance', a few others. Good music is good music, irrespective of the religious angle.

Maybe I'm just a weirdo.

Awful doesn't even begin to describe the travesty that is "Welcome to the Judges." Turning G'n'R' into christer rock is just despicable.

Most songs I like, I also like (or, can at least tolerate) the lyrics. Some are even made by the lyrics. But at the end of the day, without the music all you have is poetry, most of it bad.

I like listening too monks chant or hum or whatever they are doing. No vocals or anything, but it is soothing. I have no clue what the heck they hum about, but I like some of it. I've only heard it in a few movies or tv shows though, so it could be quite annoying live.

This is about as close to Christian music as I ever get.

A friend of mine in elementary school whose parents were super-fundies had me listen to a couple of Christian rap songs.

I know Christians are always whining about homosexuality, but their rap music is the true abomination.

Not really. I do like Good King Wenceslas, by Mannheim Steamroller, but it fades out well before thew word Christian in the lyrics. I suppose "King" W. is actually a saint, though. I don't follow up much on that Biblical tripe.

I remember a few lines from the church choirs I've heard in Germany, but here, Christian music is generally confined to the rites of Orthodox priests, where they sing pieces from the gospels, or so I think, as its in Greek, I can't really understand what they say.
But mostly you hear, "bla bla bla hristos, bla bla bla theotekos, bla bla bla hrisostomos, bla bla bla".
