That's reason at work there. Lo and behold.

Quote:Schadenfreude could also be said of the predominant amount of atheists I've found on here

Tu quoque.

Quote:I take the latter as a compliment since I seek as little hate and as much sympathetic joy as possible in my life as possible.

A laudable if naive aim for all of human kind, as well as occasionally declining to take oneself seriously. I seek and usually obtain contentment and a level of equanimity. I reject the concept of 'the pursuit of happiness' as asinine. Joy and happiness enter my life when I let them..

Hatred is built on fear.It means you have given the object of your hatred power over you.

I do not hate you or any other human being, although I despise some of the things some people do. I fear some people sometimes.I think indifference is a far greater insult to the humanity of another than dislike or hatred. THAT is something of which I'm often guilty. I'm working on it in your case, but am not there yet. When I get there,I will no longer bothers to insult you or acknowledge your existence.

Thanks I had to look that one upThinking
And would only apply as a fallacy if I denied the first premise which I don't. Simply pointing out in my recent experience, it applies to both parties. Nor am I atempting to divert anyone's attention away for Christian faults.

I don't believe sympathetic joy is in any way naive and should be a goal of humanity. I also seek equanimity. I agree indifference is a far greater blow to humanity than hate. Your opinion would have to have importance to a person to affect their disposition, though. I think you're confusing sympathic joy with the pursuit of personal happiness ((perspective). As far as hatred I think yoda said it best. "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”-yoda

Not sure I understand what you mean. The word 'altruism' has just popped into my mind, and that's a problem for me. Although I accept there are many altruistic acts performed, often (I'm even guilty myself occasionally) I've never met an altruistic person [as far as I can tell]

It seems to me our world views are so different that there is no middle ground. I see human beings as only animals with delusions of grandeur. As a species we have few redeeming qualities. The plant and all other living things will be far better off without us.

Quote:A cynic is what an idealist calls a realist (Sir Humphrey Appleby)

PS: Your argument about atheists and schadenfreude is indeed Tu quoque. That some atheist share that quality is irrelevant.

I've done formal debates through educational institutions, yeah. Never debated the subject of God formally, though. I'm not sure I would. Particularly if there were creationists involved because they can spout more falsehoods in a heart-beat than there are atoms in a glass of water (this was a falsehood but gets the point across).

An altruistic person is somone whos' force of will is exerted on consciously choosing altruistic acts with a percentage higher than 50%. And you say you haven't met one? Is it truly a belief of your that as a race we have few if any redeeming qualities? That we are nothing more than animals? Our world view is definately worlds apart.

I was pointing out that the above was itself an arguement by generalization. While my use is indeed Tu quoque; but, not falicious use of it.
