Has anyone seen the new movie? Do you like it? Dislike it? My mother was planning to take the nieces to see it while I was visiting, but after reading a bit about it I decided I didn't really care too. They changed the characters too much, in my opinion., I wouldn't mind an expansion to Sleeping Beauty that elaborates a bit more on Maleficent, but not if they're going to change her that much. It's a completely different story now.

I have heard that she does a good job playing Maleficent. On its own, it may be a good movie, but I feel that most people coming to watch it are the ones that already saw Sleeping Beauty. At least, that's the main reason I would see it.

The original Sleeping Beauty is a REALLY old movie. Does anyone even really know the story that well? And even for the rare person that does know the story, who cares - it's a children's movie.

I'll cut you some slack for not recently having nieces/daughters to sit with as you watch old Disney movies. It's not just that they changed it. It's that they drastically changed key characters so they don't much resemble who they were before. If a director is going to do this, s/he needs to research the movie s/he is expanding on. If the new movie doesn't much resemble the old movie except with the names of people, then s/he deserves to be called out on it. Otherwise don't call your characters Maleficent, Aurora, and such.

I took my daughters to see it and they loved it. I thought it was decent and enjoyed it also.

Personally, I'm getting tired of the lazy fucks at Disney (all over Hollywood too) who think they have to re-tread every movie they ever made. Are original ideas really so rare now days?
