A Serious Question For Theists
RE: A Serious Question For Theists

The only evidence for their being a God should be your personal experience with Him.

You lacking faith is evidence for God.

Personal experiences aren't evidence for anyone but the person having them, and we have not had any personal experiences with god. Therefore, we have no evidence of one, and are justified in our lack of belief.

Your last sentence is one of the most pathetic, wheedling attempts at a justification I've ever read.

By the same token, I suppose I could say that your having faith is evidence for the truth of atheism.

I could . . . but I'm not that fucking stupid.

I don't think one can be too obvious with a person willing to say that lacking belief in a god is evidence of a god.

I'm not prepared to judge until I know what he meant by that.

What can I say, you even justify yourself in your lack of belief?

The difference is that atheists' justification for lack of belief, or rather the "null hypothesis" if you will, is logically sound and honest, whereas yours, KoG, makes no sense whatsoever and causes us to wonder if you're merely here to troll the non-believers.

Or you could just explain your justification, but I won't hold my breath for something that makes sense.

I know, having a realistic and logical justification for a belief must be really weird to someone used to believing on faith and personal experience, right? Dodgy

There are a great many things that each of us lack belief in. Are you saying that you don't justify your lack of belief in Santa Claus, or Shiva, or Xenu?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

And you know this how? Superman may not be what you think of him either.

Quote:The only evidence for their being a God should be your personal experience with Him.

Which puts God "evidence" in the same category as those who have experienced Sasquatch, UFO abduction and visitation from horny succubi.

Quote:You lacking faith is evidence for God.

Requiring faith means you don't have any evidence, or nothing sufficiently compelling. You are pretending to know things you don't actually know.

So, to reword your statement:

Your lack of pretending to know things you don't actually know is evidence for God.

lol. Funny stuff! Keep it up -- we'll be here all week.
