I was talking to someone at work, and her view is probably the same nationally. She doesn't vote because she knows that it doesn't mean anything. The corporations owns congress. Why should she vote when it doesn't matter who she votes for?

She's right. Voting doesn't do anything --- ask Benjamin Franklin.

Corrupt governments do not simply change because people start voting. Voting is a con. It's a joke and you've been duped. Especially when the things we MOST want to vote on are the things they will not allow us to have any say in.

Given a vote between two douche nozzles or deciding which criminal billionaire is going to fuck the american people slightly less than all the others is not going to change jack shit. Your friend is absolutely right. She does not need to start voting. It's just part of the lie that keeps the gullible slaves in line.

It's my opinion that one change will transform American politics and government.

A constitutional amendment banning all political advertisement.

The Koch brothers can grab a soap box and protest on the street corner like everyone else.

If I'm allowed a second change, Madison Avenue 30 second sound bytes would be replaced with bi weekly debates during election season on substantive issues that would be conducted under oath. Knowingly lying during these debates would result in charges of perjury.

I'd also like to see all forms of political donations, no matter how small, viewed as bribery and a ban on using personal wealth in campaigning. All candidates to use the same, equally shared, pool of resources supplied from tax revenue. Fuck the wealthy buying their seats with Wall Street cash!

Votes should be dialed in electronically via the web so that more than 30% of the population can say their candidate won.

Just progressively tax campaign contributions. For instance, in a presidential campaign the first $100,000,000 million a campaign collects is tax exempt. The next $100,000,000 million is taxed at 30%. The next $100,000,000 million is taxed at 60%. The next $100,000,000 is taxed at 90%. Under such a system presidential campaigns would be limited to about $250,000,000 without any restrictions on how much anyone donates.

When a system is as corrupt as ours, we don't need tweaks but an overhaul.

Banning political advertisements is not an overhaul. It is simply censorship. Why shouldn't the Thomas Paine's of the world be allowed to advertise their views? With you in charge he would have been barred from or prosecuted for creating this ad.

Nope.

The Koch brothers can still speak their mind. They can protest on the street corners, hand out pamphlets or publish their views online. They can also publish books that people choose to purchase or not.

They just wouldn't be able to buy more speech.

Pamphlets and the publishing of books or views on the internet all cost money. They all employ the use of using money to multiply the size of the audience which can hear your speech. It seems you are okay with some kinds of political ads but not others. If you are okay with the publishing of pamphlets but not TV ads, I think your position is a little inconsistent......and I still think it amounts to censorship.
