I don't think we'll ever see that kind of technology in our lifetimes, and beyond. Interesting to think about, but I think those bodies would be far too hostile for humans to ever colonize.

Humans, perhaps. "Post-human" whatever the hells we become - I wouldn't want to impose any such limits on. I don't think that any "sci-fi" type ship will, ultimately, be the tool that takes us anywhere afield. To me it's an issue of motivation to create said technology, rather than utilizing the tech we have built in us already (few billion years of blind r/d after all). Certainly not a question of cost or expense to a society capable of it (since cost isn't really an issue to us, currently, with our tools and limitations).
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I wish they wouldn't announce its existence if its not confirmed or is still being disputed. Same nonsense happened with Gliese 667 C's supposed 7 planetary system, when there was actually a failure to account for any correlated noise within the data.

I wish that the 'science' media would stop referring to these planets as 'earth-like'. Yes, these planets may share a handful of qualities with our own, but it's like saying a lizard is 'human-like' because it has the same number of limbs. It's dishonest and it creates a ton of misconceptions, not just about the planets in question but our actual ability to even know such a thing.

The thought of Earth-like planets generates a lot of interest and makes for fascinating reading. I guesss it's the excitement of such possible discoveries which is why there seems to be a rush to premature publications of incomplete findings. It's a fascinating possibility though, but it's also disappointing when all the hype was nothing more than a mere false signal.
