In my circle of gay friends, I am continually surprised at the tremendous variation in skillsets regarding all those stereotypical 'male' and 'female' tasks.

I have as much fun as torching a creme brulee as I do driving a truck.

Usually, when someone says the fairer sex, they mean softer and more gentle (read weaker and in need of protection). Women cannot be generalized into such a category because 1) most of the time we only appear to be softer and more gentle, and 2) many women are actually the strong protective type as many men are timid and gentle and looking for a strong woman to protect them. (Don't look here Confused picture me as a 1950's housewife with a kinky side)

Anyways, I wasn't talking about beauty at all. Smile

I think he mebt beauty when he said fairer sex and not need for protection. In all you are right gender roles are bullshit, but relationships are equal efforts.

I pump the gas in my car. If my woman wants to do it herself, no problem with me. If she's driving and wants me to pump, I'll do it. If I'm out with a bud and he asks me to fill the tank because he's got to pinch a loaf, I'll do it then, too.

Chivalry is nice, but I'd rather be polite to everyone, not just women.

Actually I call chivalry bullshit. I just think if someone is nice enough to haul your ass around you should nice enough to pump there gas for them, or something along those lines.

All women are not china dolls. If asked, I'd be happy to drive, pump the gas, take the heavier groceries in, and all that. But I wouldn't appreciate being told off for not going out of my way when I'm not asked. If a woman needs every little thing done for her, then she's probably not worth having around.

In seriousness, was the gas tank on her side of the car? Did she pay at the pump? If both answers are yes, then it wouldn't be a far stretch to see her work the nozzle too.

Fair enough -- I suppose that being an older guy led me to read the OP in the light of a commentary on chivalry. But as I said, courtesy to everyone who returns the kindness is my preference.

Paying at the pump. doesn't happen much where I work. Ideally he should pump the gas while she ( or whomever has the money) should go in and pay and then you get out a lot quicker.
