What's funny (or actually disgusting) is there is a biblical child rearing (read: abuse) manual To Train Up a Child that tells you to do just this. Put something enticing in front of your toddler and tell them not to touch it. Then hit them every time they try to touch.

Since there is no mention of Israel in the historical record until about 1400 bce - we can also call Moses another MYTH.
We already know that the story of the exodus has no support in the historical record - nor in archeology of the area. In addition - there is no mention of the Israelites in bondage to Egypt at that time - even though we have a complete list of those who were. Once could make a case for saying that Israel was too small to be on the list - but then that would make their numbers far less than claimed as well.
As far as the Adam and Eve fairy tale - and that IS all it is - it is not even an allegory as it shows little similarity to the actual evolution of humans on earth. WE know that there were human on earth LONG before the claimed creation of the earth in the bible - so the story of Adam and Eve is nonsense - and there was NO NEED to be saved - except to be saved from ancient religious myths that have no basis in fact.

I don't think that people who had no idea what evolution was could have ever intended to write an allegorical account of evolution.....it's an allegorical account -of the human experience- as experienced, by the originators of the tale and their intended audience.

Hey man...I'm just tired of watching second rate bible fanbois paste their garbage all over the boards. I think it's interesting to know that you can have meaning in the narrative without any reference to god, and without any invocation of divinity or spirituality. Even if the authors did believe in the stuff, apparently, their humanity crept out onto the page despite their intentions.
Also, if someone wants to bring people into the fold - at some point they're going to have to make these stories relevant regardless of their historical value. The whole "this really happened so you should bend the knee" schtick isn't working the way it used to. Neither is the new-agey "they really meant this equally unsupportable hodgepodge of magical gibberish" routine.

The Garden of Eden story is very complex. It introduces the progenitor of the Jewish line that led to Jesus, who was to restore the true relationship between the Jews and their deity.
1 Corinthians 15:45 (NLT) = "The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit."
So when you read that passage you have to wonder what the definition of "man" is.
2 Esdras 7:116-117 (CEB) = "I answered: “This is my first and last word: It would have been better if the earth hadn’t brought forth Adam, or when it had brought him forth, that it had forced him not to sin. Love how she comes down with a mystery disease - and then poof...gives birth to a child...lol. That and the constant theme of jealousy between brothers.
