ABP (AdblockPlus) sucks and I will prove it...

RE: ABP (AdblockPlus) sucks and I will prove it...
With that said there are two things about IE11 that are much better than Chrome, and if Chrome added them I'd stop bitching. 1. Titlebar. 2. Statusbar. Those are the most important, but then there's others. I can't right-click and image and get the info that I can get in other browsers, for instance. Let's say an image is http: //example .com/images/someimage.ext - there's no way for me to right-click it and tell me what format it is (it can differ from the extension), what size it is (not what size it's displayed) and how big it is in bytes. I also don't have the information I want on the status bar - for instance Maxthon (the good ones, 1 and 2) would have told me the total size of the page in kb and it would tell me the length of time that the page took to load, and it would tell me the current window dimensions - all of this is information that I want available in the status bar, and I can't get it in Chrome.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

I don't know about Chrome, cause I don't use it, but I can do all of that either natively in Firefox (Inspect Element) or with any given web developer extension.

Then you have screwed up a setting somewhere. Wonder if you have some malware on your PC that has removed it? It's generally not something you can remove from the browser GUI without removing the entire search box.

Both the search box and the address bar only allow me to use the one search. The drop down arrow is only the browsing history not for searching with another browser, and as you can see there's no drop-down arrow in the search box.

That's the Address Bar. Right click on the GUI > Customize, drag the search bar back to your GUI. It's on by default on a new FF installation, I just double-checked on a new machine in the office.

And like I said it's not in the search box in the page. And what do you know - I can't add thepiratebay.se to my list of search engines. Nor can I add demonoid.ph or my other search engines that I want (I can add ixquick, duckduckgo, etc that's fine, but I can't add my own!!) What a bunch of nazzi's. What the hell is the point of a search box that I can't search thepiratebay from?? That used to be my default search engine for like 4 years (mostly because I never wanted google etc to ever automatically pop up searches when I type in the address bar)!

Um, are you going to keep complaining about this after I've proven you wrong? You've got malware or something. Your experience is not the same as everyone else's.

Funny, I had no issues using this:

Took me 15 seconds to find it.

I've been running with Adblock Plus for years and all I can say is this - the internet has ads?

Seriously though, the experience of browsing with and without ABP is remarkable. Some sites are practically unusable without it. I for one don't mind the unobtrusive google-served text ads. Its the graphic, animated, and even worse those with sound that piss me off. Not to mention popups, popovers, popunders and all the other obnoxious crap that advertisers dish up.

Yup, running AdBlock, NoScript, HTTPS Everywhere & Privacy Badger is more effective than any anti-virus product that I've ever used. I do wonder though what Arcturus did or what malware he acquired to 86 his search bar like that?

Okay now I've configured FF it's much better. There is still a lot of annoyance with FF though - some extensions like avast do not allow you to remove it (you can only disable it), and there's no option anywhere to remove installed plugins!

My point is that ABP is a shitty plugin it should be called AB- (minus) because all it is is a product that is significantly worse than AdBlock - its main competing extension.

Google has gone completely greedy and excessive on their ads. Hell the other day they wanted to serve me 17 ads in a Youtube video...

But back to their search engine, here's an example of the excess:

Google does this all the time - they duplicate the first result as an ad, and display it above the search result. This offers absolutely no benefit to the consumer. It offers a slight benefit to the advertisee, assuming they're happy to pay for people who were going to click on the first search result anyway. But most importantly it's no good for competitors.

What would be good for the consumer is if that ad was a competitor's ad. You know like Woolies...

But they don't give a shit about what's best for their customers, they'd rather look at how to generate the most clicks onto adsense. Advertisers are willing to pay a premium for better quality click-through traffic, you know.

You sure? There is in mine. Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions. There's buttons for options, disable, and remove.

I've used only ABP. What have you observed the differences between that and Adblock are? (If you said so already, I missed it.)

Youtube pretty much sucks in that regard, yes.

As far as the text ads on the search engine, I've pretty much trained myself to not even notice them. For what it's worth, I'm mostly concerned with the graphic ads, and the really abusive shit like animations, popups et al, and audio/video ads. Not to mention the ad servers that serve up tasty malware.

YMMV, of course.
