Fountain Pens

RE: Fountain Pens
I use the Lamy Safari too. I used to have a gold tipped Mont Blanc until it was STOLEN, but it was the most perfect writing instrument I ever had. Personally, I find them easier on the wrist and good for writing longer letters and journaling.

I use a custom pen made from a Desert Ironwood, a Pelikan, and couple of glass dip pens. Levenger's Classic inks only. Mainly use them to write in my Moleskines.

Is the Safari decent...there are bad reviews...right now I'm using a little custom job my wife picked up. Body is antler set into a machined 7.62 casing. Nib is, as far as I can tell, generic.

Just rinse it out with water. Didn't realize that there was any other way? I'm about to get schooled, aren't I..lol.

Rinse with water most of the time. If the nib is still good I sometimes take it to a local art supply store. They have a machine that cleans it out better than I ever could.

I use technical pens quite a bit. For those who don't know, the tech pen is a sort of cousin to the fountain pen. I do a fair bit of drafting when I'm building guitars or mandolins, and I've fallen in love with Rapidograph pens. Outstandingly good and the price won't break you.

Most of the fountain pens can be disassembled and cleaned. Mont Blancs cannot be, but I just pull water into the converter. I will send in my Mont Blancs for maintenance every couple of years.

Hmmm, I might have to try one.

Cartiere Magnani, expensive, but very nice.

I normally use 100 gr paper for my uni notes and it's nice enough. Seeing the pens I own, it's like spreading nutella on local bread Tongue
The inks I use are Waterman Florida Blue, Pelikan Brilliant Black-Green-Red, but I think I might go for another black ink as soon as I finish my current bottle.

For its price, I think the Safari is more than decent. It's been my workhorse for a while now. I'm currently using it with Waterman Florida Ink (by refilling the original cartridge with a syringe... I'm gonna get so much flak for this!), but I recently bought a converter for it and I'm going to switch to Pelikan Brilliant Green.
The original Lamy Ink was VERY watery and light, plus the pen is also quite wet too. Florida Blue flows smoothly (still a bit wet though) and has better shading and more personality in general. The Safari serves me well for what I do and sometimes, due to its wetness, I also find myself using it for taking notes during class.

Rinse them with abundant water once every two refills or if they haven't been used in a long time. Also, if you syringe-refill your cartridges, you should rinse the cartridge with water too, so that the dried ink on its walls does not muck up the feed when it mixes with the new ink.
