I've never heard that he's a Jesus freak. He certainly says otherwise in literally every show that he puts on. I'm a fan, Real Time is one of my favorite shows.
Plus Religulous, plus all his stand-ups. Don't think he's a closet Christard. What would the angle be?

On a side note I don't find him to be funny at all. He's a whiny, braying pseudo-intellectual with a poor understand of most of the things that he talks about. I can never forget cringing at an interview with Mike Huckabee where Bill Maher described evolution as being 'about the monkeys and stuff' I'm probably in the minority on these forums but I thought that Religioulous was a poorly done movie that looked and felt extremely amateurish and poorly researched. I also find him to be poorly rehearsed, he reads most of the jokes on his show like it's his first time going over them, like he was too lazy to rehearse anything and had nothing to do with the writing process. I like Bill Maher despite him being entirely unlikable. He's an unfunny person who says funny things. And his suit isn't helping him. I mean, that head of his is formal enough. He could use a bit of loosening up in the image department.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

Bill Maher is a fucking riot. Though come to think of it so many great comics are atheists, we got bill hicks, George Carlin, Eddie izzard, Ricky Gervais, jon steward, Stephen colbear. Who do the Christians have? I shockofgod and nephilimfree are pretty funny but I do not think that is intentional.
