No money for Unemployment Comp or Food Stamps, but Plenty for Bombs and War

Those are the messages that people have been getting for decades, yet when it comes to war, surveillance, special interests, or the Pentagon, there's always PLENTY of money. Bomb, bomb, bomb and bomb some more. Plenty of funding for tanks, warships, military equipment, and anything else the Pentagon desires.

Appearently the "one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all" for conservatives means a nation that blows things up a lot, but come as close as possible to providing no other services whatsoever.

This is America man, a place that makes Royalty and Kings out of robber barons and mercenaries. A place where people with an inadequate education and no access to a good paying job still think they could be rich someday. (The primary reason there is such a thing as LOTTO - keep the illusion alive.) It is, so far as I know, the only country who has ever cut taxes while waging an endless war. The utter lunacy of such a policy is hard to grasp, though it serves the war profiteers to a "T".

How this country got so completely off the rails is one of the puzzles of history. Why anyone would ever think of voting for people whose leadership is so appallingly bad (fuck, whose ability with basic math is so appallingly bad) is another.

Well, every nation makes heros and kings out of robber barons and mercenaries. The difference is American doesn't think heros and kings shouldn't have to improve the lot of ordinary people in order to keep their heads.

We have budget line items for welfare, military, research, veterans, roads, medicine, etc. If anyone thinks the allocations are out of whack, please consider who you're voting for carefully, or better yet, run yourself for office.

You really wonna know what got a america off the rails? You have a military industrial complex that is basically the tail wagging the dog.

Ah but bombs make you money in retained oil revenues. Starving your workforce, keeping them poor and charging them the most for their needs also makes you money.

Mm, let's see; I am an atheist, a socialist, anti-war, pro-environment, reject consumerism as a viable social / economic construct, regard nation / states as illusions that do more harm than good in the world, consider the Constitution a pretty good effort for its time in history but in drastic need of revision to be relevant in today's world, and suspect most multi-national corporations are basically sophisticated criminal organizations whose Officers should be spending time in jail. I regard the Senate as one of the most undemocratic institutions ever devised, consider "states rights" as a place to hide racism, misogyny, cronyism and corruption, and think the office of a President / Commander in Chief needs to be completely revamped - too much power concentrated in one individual.

Just who am I going to vote for? And as for running for office, I couldn't get elected as a dog catcher anywhere in the US. Most likely even AS a dog catcher, I would be assassinated by some wacko Christian Fundamentalists dog lover who thought I was a servant of the Anti-Christ.

No thanks. I did my part for nearly six decades, paid my share of taxes, held my nose and voted for the lesser of major evils, talked with Senators and Governors (nothing official, but ran across several of them in my line of work) wrote letters to various office holders, even attended a protest or two. I am an ex-pat for part of each year now, live in a place where the people don't carry guns, are serious about their religion but don't mind those who aren't, who live in a beautiful place and try to take care of it, and who - in spite of their religion - cherish education and personal rights.

Vote, run for office if you like, I might even admire you for doing so. But this nation is far past fixing, way too ill to recover.
