Is sanity rational?

RE: Is sanity rational?
Since sanity is, by definition, the state of being rational, sanity is rational.

The real question is how can you know that you are in fact sane?

I don't think I'd equate sanity and rationality. Emotions like love and anger are not rational, but the ability to have normal emotional interactions with other humans is an important part of sanity.

That and pee more often but much more slowly, right?

I think they are expressions of feelings ingrained in our species through the process of evolution.

What say you? Does being "crazy" really mean someone has lost their grip on reality, and does being "sane" really mean someone is interacting meaningfully with an objective reality?

I say why make "rationality" the measure of sanity? Rationality isn't an entirely human perspective. That is, it doesn't encompass a perspective as wide as the ones we actually live in.

Maybe sanity is simply a question of recognizing reality well enough to be able to navigate through it successfully, while manipulating it to get your needs met without behaving monstrously toward others. But why settle for a bare-bones definition of sanity. It might be interesting to consider what are the bench marks of the kind of sanity you value most.
