Can anyone identify this plant?
I took this photo at a Botanical garden not far from me sometime in august last year.

I'd never given much thought to what it was until Losty asked me about it.

Do any of you Botanists recognise it?

That's the nice cousin of a similar plant I've seen with wide leaves that have spikes on the side instead of flowers.
