An intro
Hello, I'm so glad to have found this little corner of the internet, before posting i thought I'd pop in a little intro.

I was baptized Lutheran, went to catholic school and services growing up but identified as an agnostic into adulthood. I married a man raised Catholic/Jewish who also identified as agnostic. My husband and I have had some recent discussions and kind of felt we were more comfortable with our beliefs being described as atheist.

I don't feel like our beliefs are something to be ashamed of but when I do talk about them I'm surprised at how passionately mean some people can be who automatically associate atheists with immoral. I recently had a coworker tell me that we're going to burn in hell. I guess what I'm looking for are easier ways to not be ashamed but also avoid controversy.

Welcome.

Congratulations for throwing off the shackles of belief.

In respect to morality, I would say, generally, atheists are more moral than many believers.

Welcome! I feel your pain. Some months ago, I was dating this guy. I was in the bathroom or something, and he and my sister were talking. I don't know what the convo was, but my sister mentioned my atheism. Patrick (the dude) said, "Becca's not an atheist!" My sister said, "Uhhh. Patrick, she's a pretty big atheist". He said, "but she's a good person". A couple of days later, he told me it wouldn't work out between us. I can't say I disagreed.

As far as being ashamed? Just don't be. If people are judging you, it says more about them. Be yourselves.

Welcome JJRN!
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

I usually find "Fuck you and your fucking god" to work in that situation...but its probably easier for a guy.

Welcome aboard.

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
