Pope Gives Evolution a Big Banging

If you're going after the Catholic Church, aim at the molestation.

Already did, as does this one guy I pass by every day who has been protesting outside the Vatican for not making any real progress since he was molested sixty odd years ago. So I've done my fair share of that.

But while the Catholic Church has accepted reality (after many years of opposing it) what I found so headscratching as a borderline dropping out Catholic (although definitely not the more I think about it) is that they accept reality, but only as much as they need to to give themselves an out for their accepted fantasy.
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?

Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

No, what kills it is that it reads like a Grimm Bros fairy tale with a little LSD thrown in for good measure.

I don't care how many people say it happened -- if you want me to believe that a talking snake convinced a rib-woman to eat an apple that gave her moral knowledge and that because of that, a skydude decided we should all burn in hell unless we eat the body of his son in the form of wafers ...

yeah ... no.

Did you guys even watch the video? The three panelists are desperately trying to push what the pope said back into a frame work of christianity in which they are accustom of dealing with... How sad is it that these guys (and appearently most of you) can't change their arguements to address what was actually said, but rather try and push what was said back to resemble what you all are use to dealing with.

So...... is he saying, "Science is right, but god made science!" The more we figure out, the harder it is to absorb our knowledge into a static religious model.

He seems to be going against the creation story in a massive way, unless he is saying god created abiogenesis and watched as we evolved from little grimy things. Pretty much not what the bible says at all.

It's good to see that he is acknowledging reality to some degree though. I think the age of the internet has done a lot towards making it harder for facts to be simply blocked out and denied.

Cool Shades

"B-But God came up with evolution. That's how the Bible that I already believe is right anyway can still be right!" -what the Pope's words actually mean.

"B-But Santa Claus can stop time. That's how he can deliver all the presents in one night!" -the average four year old.

My favorite part of The Young Turks' reply to this was that (paraphrasing here) obviously this is religion contorting itself so that science fits into dogma.

There are so many things wrong with the bible - that all the pope is doing its trying to hang onto ONE of them - as a way of ignoring all the thousands of others.

THe problem the pope is having is not that he has less Catholics - that is not true - they are converting the uneducated people of SOUTH AMERICA and Africa to keep growing. The problem is - the ones that can afford to give MONEY to the church are leaving it behind in droves -= and making a claim like this to THEM - is meaningless to them.

Essentially the pope is saying - YOU DON"T have to believe - as long as you give us the money.

so in the end science still wins because even the pope knows religion is a bunch of bs and
is only probably doing it because he probably feels guilty of leading masses of believers.
Atheism is a non-prophet organization join today.

No, he probably feels scared that the masses of believers are getting less massive, and decided he needed slightly less rediculous sounding bullshit.
