RE: Interesting Tidbit for Our Aussie Friends
The US used back channel means to tilt elections to secure the victory of candidates friendly to American geopolitical agenda, and topple a democratically elected government of a nominal ally that the US felt would not sufficiently in league with the American agenda many times before.

I think the Russian were far from off base in saying the revolution in Ukraine is hardly an untainted expression of true native democratic will, but was mostly an engineered coup aimed at rolling back Russian influence from state bordering on Russia.

Whether Russia would have acted badly had Ukraine really spontaneously voted to join NATO is now moot. But I suspect without American intervention through direct propaganda and through nominal NGOs that issue would not have come up in the foreseeable future. But as it is now, all vilification of Putin not withstanding, there is little doubt Putin is really acting to secure Russia's vital defensive interests against an hostile intervention by the United States specifically aimed at harming those interests.

Yeeeeah...the US has a bit of a knack for overthrowing democratically elected governments to install friendlier ones...for democracy's sake of course!

But leave the vegemite/marmite at home. That shit is terrifyingly awful.
