... You do not want to know what happens to those deemed "unsaleable". There are fates worse than slavery and rape (the worst thing about routine is that you stop hating it)... or perhaps it is a blessing to dance with agonizing death, by which their suffering might end? It's a very case-specific question.

My standard philosophy ('the hostages are already dead') works as an answer, regardless.
