So what's the naming convention in europe? Is "Budweiser" the czech stuff (yum) and "Bud" the horsepiss?

"Bud" is certainly the horsepiss. A good bottle of Budweiser on the other hand ....

Is there any good German music that I might like? Given that I don't like metal or dance (preferably something that doesn't sound too eurovision-y)

It's difficult recommending completely outside my tastes and not knowing your taste at all. I assume you are referring to pop music. I'm sure there are tons of excellent underground things which I don't even know.

There are some eclectic singer-songwriter and hip hop things which could probably be considered to be good or so (concentrating on German lyrics only)



There's some famous punk rock things which I mostly dislike.

Of course, all the 80s stuff of the Neue Deutsche Welle:


Sure I can't win you over for some mild metal? Maybe with a bit of punkrock and medieval flair?

I haven't listened to much metal. They scare me
Most of what I've listened to was pop (I don't like a large proportion of it) and alternative rock and I've listened to a little bit of Fado, Morna and Bossa Nova (I want to learn Portuguese)

I've listened to a bit of foreign music to familiarise myself with some languages e.g Hebrew, Polish and Spanish

I'm a bit of language geek by the way

We have to change that! Half of it, like the whole euro power metal stuff is not even trying to be superficially scary.
