Recent High Profile Atheist Debates

RE: Recent High Profile Atheist Debates
OK, a few things to ask yourself when watching any debate.
1. Who has organised and funded the debate.
2. Who is chairing the debate.
3. Is it edited, and if so who is organising the editing.
4. What are the biases if any of those mentioned above.

I'd lastly like to mention that Dawkins is by proffession an evolutionary biologist so can only really argue science with proficiency in that area, not sure about Hitchins, so when drawn into any other area of science he is outside his comfort zone.

I'm sure others can add plenty more things to watch out for and consider.

All the best

Chris

P.S. By Heisenbergs uncertainty principle matter can come into and out of existence.
Archeologists near mount Sinai have discovered what is believed to be a
missing page from the Bible. The page is currently being carbon dated in
Bonn. If genuine it belongs at the beginning of the Bible and is believed to
read "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this book are
fictitous and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely
coincidental." - Newsreader in 'Red Dwarf 2: Better Than Life'

I figured that as an atheist I had the clearly more logical, and reasonable, sensible position, and when explained properly, it would be very obvious to others. Yet from these debates, atheists actually became christians. I cannot say that it doesn't make me do a double take on my own beliefs.

I saw the Craig-Hitchens debate, and indeed, Hitchens doesn't perform to his usual standards. He doesn't really seem bothered engaging for some reason. Craig's arguments are still no good but it is a bit disappointing not to see Christopher shred them as per usual. However, Hitchens usually makes short work of his opposition and there are plenty of examples on the old youtube, have a look.

My point is, it doesn't matter whether Hitchens is on form or not in a debate, there aren't an good theistic arguments or evidence. Don't let anybody else be your reason for believing things, evaluate them for yourself.

If you're still unsure, there are plenty of atheists on top form around this forum.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life.

I think it's fair to say that Min, Rhythm, pad, 5th and a handful of others here would leave William Lane Craig crying into his own anus if they got their hands on him in a debate. And several more could keep pace with him without breaking much of a sweat.
