I have known a couple of women who remained in abusive marriages because they said they loved their husbands and didn't want to leave. My best guess is that years of being abused in childhood, or seeing a parent abused, prepared them to accept mistreatment. It is sad and very exhausting to be the relative of such a person.
Abuse doesn't start with the first punch. Usually the abuser has spent a long time tearing down the victim's self worth. |
